This book is intended to provide the 'average' straight parent, relative or friend an insight to the mind of a gay person.

The point of view of a gay person is different to that of the majority. There are common assumptions, stereotypes, fears, and curiosities that do not fit well with us. This is sometimes difficult for non-gay friends and family to understand.

I hope that you will find in these pages a better feel for the issues you may have thought about, as well as some that are important for us which you may not be aware of. From this, I hope a greater understanding and a stronger bond will develop between you and the gay person who matters to you.

When I was preparing to the write this book I researched the information and books available here and overseas to make sure it hadn't been done before. Without intending any offence to many more accomplished writers, I was disappointed with what was on offer. By far the majority of books available to assist in the understanding of gay people and issues were one of two extremes. They seemed to be either graphic pornographic stories or intensely scientific texts full of complicated material, facts, figures and research.

What I have tried to achieve here is a much more down-to-earth effort that is readable for the average person. I don't want to describe my sexual encounters in graphic detail, and I don't want to flood you with scientific analysis. I want to have a conversation with you in plain english that will help make sense of the world as it is seen through gay eyes.
