It emphasizes that there are laws of nature that govern the world and provides interdisciplinary examples as proof. The book raises more questions then it answers, but in so doing, stimulates thinking and encourages the reader to seek a solution. The book is a synthesis of reality, making it unusual, because most non fiction books are analytical and thus constitute a less attractive type of reading. It also has also clearly political overtones, since the author's life is experience based on the application of common sense. This unavoidably puts him in the conservative camp. The author, who spent about twenty years under a communist regime and another twenty five years in the United States, is uniquely equipped to draw not only comparisons between both systems, but especially similarities, which are not clear to people who have lived only in countries with a Western-type democratic system.

Kot F. von Unrug comes from a prominent Polish family, which over centuries has produced civic and military leaders, artists and writers. He was born in 1935 at the family farm, which was nationalized by the Communist government in 1945. He completed education as a mining engineer in Krakow, the old university town known as a cultural capital of Poland. After a period of work in the mining industry, he obtained his Ph. D and D. Sc. and became a professor at the Technical University in Krakow. In 1977 he left Poland without government permission and after one year in Austria, immigrated to the United States. Since 1978, Dr. von Unrug has been a professor at the University of Kentucky. He has been active professionally in engineering societies and as a consultant in the US and internationally. Dr. von Unrug has published 92 papers, holds five patents and has contributed to three engineering handbooks. He has spoken to many audiences and published popular science papers as well as reported on his travels to the leading Polish weekly cultural magazine Przekroj. He has traveled extensively in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.
